About question groups

Questions live in question groups. A group is a set of questions that participants see together, by default on one page. Every new survey starts with one group, My first question group, that holds the sample question. Groups appear in the Structure sidebar on the left and as sections on the canvas.

Add a question group

1. Open the survey in the editor and click the purple + button at the top left.

2. Click Add question group at the top left of the picker. The new group appears at the end of the survey, above the end screen, and the Group settings panel opens on the right.

3. Type a name under Title in the Group settings panel, or click Group title on the canvas and type there. Both are the same field.

   

4. Add questions to the group with the purple + divider below its title. It adds a question at that spot. You can also select the group in the Structure sidebar and use the + button in the top bar.

Edit a question group

1. Click the group title on the canvas or in the Structure sidebar. The Group settings panel opens.

2. Change the Title or add a Description. The description is shown to participants at the top of the group's page.

3. Use Randomization group to shuffle this group with other groups that have the same randomization group name, and Condition to show the group only when an expression is true.

Changes are saved as you type. There is no Save button.

Reorder, collapse, duplicate or delete a group

• To move a group, drag it to a new position in the Structure sidebar.
• Click the chevron in front of the group title on the canvas to collapse or expand it.
• Click the ... menu at the right of the group title for Duplicate group and Delete group. Deleting a group deletes its questions too.
• The eye icon next to the ... menu previews the group.

Note: While a survey is active, the + button is disabled and you cannot add, move or delete groups. Stop the survey first with Deactivate survey. See Activate or stop a survey.

FAQ

Do I have to create a group before I add questions?

No. Every survey starts with one group and the sample question already sits in it. Add more groups when you want more pages or want to show or randomize a set of questions together.

How do I put every question on its own page?

Open Settings > General (gear icon in the left rail) and change Format from Group by group to Question by question. All in one puts the whole survey on a single page.
