About Array dual scale

Array dual scale rates every item on two scales at once, side by side. A classic use is importance and satisfaction: how important is each feature, and how satisfied are you with it. Participants pick one point on each scale per row.

In the picture: 1 the first scale with its heading, 2 the second scale with its heading, 3 the subquestions, one row per item.

Add an Array dual scale question

1. Click the purple + in the top bar. The question type picker opens.

2. Under Array, click Array dual scale. The question appears at the end of the current question group.

3. Click Your question here and type your question.

4. Click Header 1 and Header 2 above the columns and type the names of the two scales, for example "Importance" and "Satisfaction".

5. Click each row and type an item. The purple + bar below the last row adds a row.

6. Type the points of each scale in its columns. The purple + column adds a point to a scale.

Settings that matter

Select the question to open its settings on the right.

• Use dropdown presentation (Advanced > Display): shows two dropdowns per row instead of radio buttons. Saves a lot of width.
• (Sub-)question width (Advanced > Display): the width of the row labels in percent. Lower it when the scales need more room.
• Repeat headers (Advanced > Display): repeats the headings after a number of rows.
• Minimum answers and Maximum answers (Advanced > Logic): how many rows participants must or may answer.

How the answers are stored

Every row stores two values, one per scale. Each value is the code of the chosen point, for example A002. In the export, every row has one column per scale.

FAQ

The column headings break in the middle of words. What can I do?

The columns are too narrow. Lower (Sub-)question width, shorten the labels of the points, or turn on Use dropdown presentation.

Can the two scales have a different number of points?

Yes. Each scale has its own answer options, so the first scale can have three points and the second five.
