About Array (Point choice)

Array (Point choice) rates several items on the same scale in one grid. The items are the rows, the scale is in the columns, and participants pick one point per row. Use it instead of many separate questions with the same answers, for example statements rated from Agree to Disagree. You write the scale yourself, so it can have any number of points.

In the picture: 1 the subquestions, one row per item, 2 the answer options, the scale shared by all rows. No answer is added as a last column when the question is not mandatory.

Add an Array (Point choice) question

1. Click the purple + in the top bar. The question type picker opens.

2. Under Array, click Array (Point choice). The question appears at the end of the current question group.

3. Click Your question here and type your question.

4. Click each row and type an item. The purple + bar below the last row adds a row.

5. Click each column heading and type a point of your scale. The purple + column at the right adds a column.

Settings that matter

Select the question to open its settings on the right.

• Repeat headers (Advanced > Display): repeats the scale headings after a number of rows, useful for long arrays.
• (Sub-)question width (Advanced > Display): the width of the row labels in percent. Lower it when the scale needs more room.
• Use dropdown presentation (Advanced > Display): shows a dropdown per row instead of radio buttons, which saves space on phones.
• Array filter (Advanced > Logic): shows only the rows a participant ticked in an earlier multiple choice question with the same subquestion codes.

How the answers are stored

Every row is stored on its own: the first row of a question with the code Q026 is Q026_SQ001, and its value is the code of the chosen point, for example A001. In the export, each row is a column.

Tip: Use answer codes that carry the value of the point, such as 1 to 5 instead of A001 to A005. Your export is then ready for calculations.

FAQ

Where are Array (5 point choice) and Array (10 point choice)?

They are no longer in the question type picker. Build the same question with Array (Point choice) and five or ten answer options, for example 1 to 5. Existing questions of the old types keep working in your surveys.

How do I build a Yes/No/Uncertain or Increase/Same/Decrease array?

Use Array (Point choice) with these three answer options. The old fixed types are no longer in the picker.
