About Multiple numerical input

Multiple numerical input shows several labeled number fields in one question. Each field is a subquestion. Use it when numbers belong together: hours per activity, a budget split, the number of people per age group. It can require a total, for example percentages that add up to 100.

Participants see the tip Only numbers may be entered in these fields.

Add a Multiple numerical input question

1. Click the purple + in the top bar. The question type picker opens.

2. Under Number, click Multiple numerical input. The question appears at the end of the current question group.

3. Click Your question here and type your question.

4. Click the first subquestion and type the label of the field. Add subquestion below the last row adds another field.

Settings that matter

Select the question to open its settings on the right. The limits are under Advanced > Input.

• Minimum sum value and Maximum sum value: the total all fields must reach or may not exceed. Set both to 100 for percentages that add up to 100.
• Minimum value and Maximum value: the range for every single field.
• Integer only: accepts whole numbers only.
• Use slider layout (Advanced > General): shows a slider for every field instead of a text field. The Slider section then sets the range, the step and the start value.
• Minimum answers and Maximum answers (Advanced > Logic): how many fields participants must or may fill in.

How the answers are stored

Every field is stored on its own as a number, for example Q024_SQ001 for the first field of a question with the code Q024. In the export, each field is a column.

FAQ

How do I make the fields add up to 100?

Set Minimum sum value and Maximum sum value to 100 under Advanced > Input. Participants who enter numbers can only continue when the total is exactly 100. Set Mandatory to On if the question must not be skipped.

Can participants see the running total?

Add an Equation question on the same page, for example with the text Total: {sum(Q024_SQ001, Q024_SQ002, Q024_SQ003)}. The total updates while participants type.
