About publication and access

These settings decide when your survey can be taken and what stands between a visitor and the first question: a start and end date, a listing on your public index page, a cookie against repeated participation, and CAPTCHA. Open them with the gear icon in the left toolbar and then Publication & access. Changes are saved as you make them.

Schedule the survey

1. Click the calendar button next to Start date/time and pick the day and time the survey opens. Before that moment participants cannot take it.

2. Click the calendar button next to End date/time and pick when it closes. After that moment participants cannot take it anymore.

Both fields are optional: without a start date the survey opens when you activate it, without an end date it stays open until you stop it. The survey must be active either way. See Activate or stop a survey.

Control access

Link survey on public index page: lists the survey on the public index page of your survey site, the page that shows when someone opens your site address without a survey link. Off by default.

Set cookie to prevent repeated participation: after submitting, the participant's browser gets a cookie, and the same browser cannot take the survey again. Use it for surveys anyone can open with the link. It does not stop someone with a second browser or device; access codes do.

Use CAPTCHA for survey access: participants solve a CAPTCHA before they start.

Use CAPTCHA for registration: people who register themselves for the survey solve a CAPTCHA first. See Allow public registration in Participant settings.

Use CAPTCHA for save and load: participants who save the survey to finish later, or load a saved survey, solve a CAPTCHA first.

Allow survey embedding: Yes allows the survey to be shown inside a page of another website, for example in an iframe. Choose No to allow it only on its own page.

How do I close a survey on a set date?

Set End date/time. After that moment participants cannot take the survey anymore, and you keep all responses.

How do I stop people from answering twice?

For a survey with a public link, turn on Set cookie to prevent repeated participation. For a firm limit of one response per person, invite participants with access codes.
