About the Themes page

The Themes page lists the themes installed on your survey site. Open it under Configuration > Advanced > Themes, or with the Themes icon in the left sidebar of your workspace, which only superadministrators see out of the box. It has three tabs: Survey themes, Admin themes and Question themes. To install a theme, click Upload & install and select the theme ZIP file, up to 40 MB.

Survey themes

Survey themes are the designs participants see. LimeSurvey Cloud comes with four core themes: Fruity TwentyThree (the default), Fruity, Bootswatch and Bootstrap Vanilla. Themes you create yourself are listed as User theme, with their parent theme under Extends. The ... menu next to a theme offers:

• Theme editor: the files of the theme. See Create your own theme in the theme editor.
• Theme options: the theme options for the whole survey site, on the tabs Simple options, Colors, Images and Fonts. Surveys inherit them unless their survey group or the survey itself sets its own.
• Extend: create your own theme based on this one. You type in a name for it.
• Uninstall: uninstall a theme you added. LimeSurvey asks first, because this resets the specific configuration of the theme. Core themes can't be uninstalled.
• Reset: reload the configuration file of the theme.

Admin themes

The admin theme is the look of the LimeSurvey administration. LimeSurvey Cloud has one: Sea Green.

Question themes

Question themes are variants of question types, for example Single choice buttons. See Use a question theme.

Why don't I see the Themes icon in the sidebar?

Out of the box, only superadministrators see it. With the Themes permission, open the page under Configuration > Advanced > Themes.

Can I uninstall a core theme?

No. Core themes can't be uninstalled. You can uninstall themes you added.

How do I install a theme?

Click Upload & install and select the theme ZIP file, up to 40 MB.
