About copying a survey

A copy is a new survey with the questions, groups, logic and settings of the original, and without its responses and participants. Copy a survey to reuse a proven questionnaire, to make a version for another audience, or to test changes without touching the original.

Copy a survey

In the workspace, click ... on the card of the survey (1) and then Copy (2).

In the Copy survey dialog:

1. The survey is already selected under Source survey (1). Check the New survey title (2). If you leave it empty, the copy gets the title of the original with Copy at the end.

2. To choose what the copy takes along, click Advanced options (3). Under Select the elements to include (4), everything is selected: the resource files of the survey, its quotas, its permissions, the answer options, the conditions and the start and end date. Reset response start ID lets the response IDs of the copy start from the beginning. Clear what the copy should not have. You can also set a New survey ID here.

3. Click Copy survey (5).

The copy is a survey of its own, with its own ID and survey link. Changes to the original do not reach the copy, and the other way around.

Tip: You can also start from the purple + in the top bar of the workspace: click Copy and pick the survey under Source survey.

FAQ

Are responses copied?

No. The copy starts without responses and without participants.

Can I copy a survey to another LimeSurvey site?

Not directly. Export the survey as a survey structure file (.lss) and import it in the other site. See Import a survey.
