About Multiple choice buttons

Multiple choice buttons shows the options as buttons instead of checkboxes. Participants click every button that applies, and the selected buttons turn to the color of your theme. Large buttons are easy to tap on phones and work well for topics, interests or tags.

Add a Multiple choice buttons question

1. Click the purple + in the top bar. The question type picker opens.

2. Under Multiple choice, click Multiple choice buttons. The question appears at the end of the current question group.

3. Click Your question here and type your question.

4. Click the first subquestion and type the option. Add subquestion below the last row adds another one. Keep the labels short: they have to fit on a button.

Settings that matter

Select the question to open its settings on the right.

• Button size (Advanced > Display theme options): makes the buttons smaller or larger.
• Maximum number of buttons in a row (Advanced > Display theme options): wraps the buttons into several rows.
• Minimum answers and Maximum answers (Advanced > Logic): require at least or at most a number of selected buttons.
• Exclusive option (Advanced > Logic): enter the code of an option such as "None of these". Selecting it clears the other buttons.

How the answers are stored

Exactly as for Multiple choice: every option is stored on its own, for example Q011_SQ001, with Y when it was selected. Multiple choice buttons is a question theme of Multiple choice: only the look differs.

How do participants undo a selection?

They click the button again. It turns back to its normal look.

Can I switch an existing Multiple choice question to buttons?

Yes, as long as the survey is not active. Select the question and pick Multiple choice buttons under Type in the question settings. Both types use subquestions, so the options stay.
