About storage
Every file on your survey site takes up upload storage: pictures and documents in your surveys, files participants upload with a File upload question, themes and label sets. Your plan sets how much you have: 10 MB on the free plan, 250 MB on Basic, 1 GB on Expert and 3 GB on Business. See Subscription plans.
See how much storage you use
- The top bar of your survey site shows the storage used and available in MB, for example 0.2 / 1000. Click it to open the Storage tab of the global settings.
- On the Storage tab of Global settings, click Calculate storage to recount the space your files take. With many files, this can take a moment.
- On your account page at account.limesurvey.org, the Account details tab shows the total under Storage reminder.
When the storage is full
Surveys with a File upload question are blocked, and you can't upload files to your survey site any more. To unblock them, free up space.
Free up storage
- Keep copies of the files you need. In Results, open the responses list, tick the responses and click Download files.
- Delete what you no longer need:
- To remove only the uploaded files and keep the answers, tick the responses and click Delete attachments.
- To remove whole responses with their files, tick them and click Delete.
- Delete surveys, themes and label sets you no longer use.
- Open Global settings, go to the Storage tab and click Calculate storage. Reload the page to see the new total.

Note: Deleted responses and files can't be restored.
Get a warning before it's full
On your account page, the Account details tab has a Storage reminder: we email you when your free storage falls below this percentage. The default is 10%. With 250 MB of storage, 10% means an email once 225 MB are used.

FAQ
I deleted files but my survey is still blocked. What do I do?
The counter updates when it is recalculated. Open Global settings, go to Storage, click Calculate storage and reload the page after a few seconds.
Does deleting responses give me responses back?
No. Storage and responses are counted separately. See How responses are counted and what happens at your limit.
Where do I change the storage reminder?
On your account page, on the Account details tab under Your survey site, with the edit button next to Storage reminder. See Manage your account and survey site.
